Trip Overview

Cho Oyu is the world’s sixth highest mountain with an altitude of 8,201m and it lies 28km west of Mt. Everest on the Tibetan Plateau. While climbing this peak you can experience the three main ridges- the Northwest, the Northeast and the Southwest. The impressive Southwest face of the Cho Oyu, drew the attention of the first expedition to the Everest Himal organized by the British in 1921.But due to the lack of technical limits and difficult ridges of Cho Oyu no one could step the top. Finally Cho Oyu was successfully climbed in the post monsoon season of 1954 via the Northwest ridge by Austrians Herbert Tichy, Sepp Johler and Sherpa Pasang Dawa Lama. That same year, it was again attempted by a French Expedition group which include Mme. Claude Kogan, and although they were turned back at 7,600m, her altitude record for women lasted for many years. Cho Oyu Expedition is among the difficult one, challenging and adventurous.Strenuous
